The movie adaptation of the hugely popular Ubisoft game series Assassin’s Creed might still be months away from release, but the the last few weeks have seen plenty of promotional activity. We’ve had new imagery, the first trailer, and assurances from Ubisoft that the film will actually be good. Now a new, striking poster has been released. Check it out below:
Assassin’s Creed stars Michael Fassbender and comes to cinemas on December 21, 2016. The movie is directed by Justin Kurzel, and co-stars Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, and Michael Kenneth Williams.
In March it was reported a sequel was already in development, and that Fassbender was on board. Despite the mediocre track record of video game movies, the calibre of the cast and Ubisoft’s commitment to creative control over this project are unusual.
Ubisoft’s head of content Azaïzia Aymar sought to assure fans last week that this film would stand apart from previous attempts to bring popular games to the big screen. “There is always a first,” he stated on Twitter. “Assassin’s Creed will be that one, mark my words.”
Additionally, with no new mainline Assassin’s Creed game coming out this year, the film’s marketing team has more space and opportunity to promote the picture, according to Ubisoft.
It has also been reported that a VR experience is being developed, to tie into the release of Assassin’s Creed. As reported by Eurogamer, it will feature scenes “filmed alongside the movie.” It is being made by Fox Studios and the VR company Practical Magic.
