Dungeons & Dragons Movie Gets Director, “Vin Diesel-Type” Eyed for Lead – Report

The Dungeons & Dragons movie, which has been in development at Harry Potter and The Hobbit studio Warner Bros. since 2013, is moving forward, apparently. Citing unnamed sources, The Tracking Board reports that Warner Bros. has brought on Goosebumps and Shark Tale director Rob Letterman to helm the film. Wrath Of The Titans and Red Riding Hood writer David Leslie Johnson is writing the script.

The movie, based on the decades-old fantasy tabletop game, will be an “action-adventure tale” that focuses on a warrior and his creature pals, among them a half-dragon and a “cunning gnome.” They set out looking for a mythical treasure, and that’s all we know about the plot so far.

The Tracking Board reports that the film’s producers, including Roy Lee (The Departed, The Lego Movie), are looking for a “Vin Diesel-type” actor for the lead role. Diesel himself has spoken about his love for the D&D series , though there’s no word yet on if he’s going to be involved with the new film.

Courtney Solomon, who directed the 2000 film Dungeons & Dragons, is also on board to produce. That movie starred Jeremy Irons, Marlon Wayans, and Bruce Payne.

According to a 2013 report from Deadline, Warner Bros. is aiming to use the film to reboot the D&D franchise for a new generation of viewers. No release date, or even a projection of a release date, for the upcoming D&D movie has been announced.

One of the latest new D&D games is Sword Coast Legends, which features a soundtrack from Fallout 4’s Inon Zur.
